Sad But True
I have been reading the forum for about 6 months, when we picked up the 2014 JKU Rubicon X that I got my wife for Christmas, but this is my first post. Shortly after that we booked the recent Roof of the Rockies Jamboree and were off to a great new time. This is the first Jeep we have owned since our 1981 CJ7. Well, things have not turned out as we had hoped. On a Wed about 2 weeks before Jeep Jamboree in June while my wife and daughter were driving it home in the dark the wipers came on, the dash lights went bananas, and the jeep just shut off in the left lane of the road...initial attempt to restart got nothing, then a clicking and finally it started but ran rough but good enough the get to parking lot and then drive home. Next morning started fine and we took to dealership on Thursday. Got it back Saturday - Could not duplicate..great...I am driving it 3 hours later and it repeats on me-long wait for tow truck then no Jeep for a week. They replaced the TIPM and it ran fine for 3 days, at which time it would not start, doesn't even crank, in our driveway. Next day it started and back to dealership....another week... Jeep Jamboree now an absolute no go...and they found low voltage to sway bar disconnect so replaced that entire unit. In the meantime I had opened a case with Chrysler as this is an incredibly dangerous situation if it just stalls while driving..
So we have had it back now for approximately 600 miles, drove to party Saturday night and home...all good...go to start on Sunday morning and same crap-turn the key, wipers start going, dash lights up and one pathetic attempt at kicking the starter and then nothing....Sunday night it starts and is accompanied by the smell of melting/burning rubber. Next two days starts fine but now no one wants to drive it for fear of being stranded or rear ended when it stalls or worse.....I have opened another case with Chrysler and have filled out the lemon law form as this is now a totally worthless vehicle to us...
I have now, of course, come across all the threads of TIPM and sway bar issues but they seem to be on older models...Is this still happening and anyone with an newer JKU have the same issues?? Any solutions?
Jeep now has 6,300 miles on it...no mods other than winch installed by Jeep dealer at time of purchase. First issue was at 5,400 mi.

This was a big issue in the 2008s and I think done if the late 2007s. However Chrysler is so proud they would not issue a recall for the TIPM. Some dealerships were legit awesome dealerships and on good faith and good business practices have replaced without charge. Mine had an issue like this and I took out the TIPM abd reseated all the connections in it and had a couple smaller issues after. Had my battery tested and it was bad. Replaced it and really haven't had an issue since
I think I read somewhere not too long ago that some people are starting to have this issue with the new 2014s or newer years. Have they checked your battery?

I thought of the battery too, something funky there. The dealership supposedly checked it fully when it was in the second time and declared it good. Sitting in the garage just now it was showing 12 volts on the meter. I know when my Corvette battery failed the dealer charged it and told me it was fine-but wouldn't even crank the car. Instead of messing around to get a new battery under warranty I just went and bought one-has been fine since.
Since the Jeep is so new I don't want to try anything myself and give them something to pin the blame on me for, but seems it may be a logical (and cheap) step to replace the battery.
Thanks for the note.

Are your issues at all similar to this? I have a 2014 Rubicon X as well with almost 14,000 miles. I had the dash light issue but not the starting issue or wiper issue. I have not completely solved my problems but I have a feeling that the problem could be as simple as the battery terminal connectors. They don't clamp down well on the terminals. I have tightened them like it says in the write up and all lights went away for a while, but over time they have reoccurred. My next step is to order new connectors.

I second the battery terminals on these newer jeeps are WORTHLESS..
I took mine loose when I installed my kicker Speakers.. and after re-connecting I could just pull the ground off without even trying.. I ended up having to get the ground terminal replaced.. on a jeep (at the time) with 400 miles..

Here's a troubleshooting idea:
If a 12volt light is plugged into the cigarette lighter receptacle that's always on, and it dimmed or flickered when this event happened, it would point to a bad battery or related connectors. On the other hand, if the light stays bright, the battery and connections would not be the problem.
On older cars I've used the interior dome light or the head lamps instead of a lamp plugged into the (always-on) lighter receptacle, but since those go through the computer it's not a direct indication of battery voltage. Side note: A test lamp is usually better than a digital meter (unless it has min/max) because of the meter's display update time -- Quick on-off voltage variation from a bad connection plays havoc with electronics.

Before you go through a ton of trouble try the battery terminal fix, they are definitely not the best terminals around and are too easy to swap not to do it over a very pricey vehicle. loose terminals or bad ones can cause all the issues you had if its not the computer or battery itself its them.

It has been a while for me, but when you DMM a battery, shouldnt it read 12.7-12.4v? If I remember right, and anything 12v and under is a flat or "dead" battery. if you are getting only 12v im pretty sure there is something wrong.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Mine is a 2012 so this may not help but my wife was driving ours, stopped to get donuts in the morning before work, tried to start it and nothing. No clicking, no lights. Turns out the battery was dead. As stated before, the terminals suck, and so does the stock battery. Only a 2 year warranty. Same with new ones from dealership, 2 years. Go aftermarket and buy a good 5-7 year battery. I did and never looked back!!! No problems since
