Default Sand is the devil!

So after a mild sandstorm in Glamis (for pics of JK and Glamis Check out my Easter in Glamis thread in show & tell) I noticed my streeingwheel made a funny sound. It sounded like sand got between plastic gears.

I was planning on taking it apart this weekend too clean everything out, however on my way to work today there was a white ribbon hanging from the steeringwheel. I ever so carefully pulled it out (nothing was holding it in there) and to my surprize it has wires in it! I had no choice but to drive it to work today and during that drive I discovered my airbag light is on, my horn doesn't work, and my cruise control doesn't work.

Does anyone have anyideas what could have caused this? I dont even know where to start....should I just take it back to the dealer? If I take it back to the dealer, do I have to put my doors and top back on? Thanks for any and all help....and if you need pics of the ribbon I can take some.

definitely the clock spring. a quick search will reveal many owners with clock spring issues. Definitely requires a fix if you expect your airbag to work, and any other electronics associated with your steering wheel.

hehe, no worries man. One of the reasons I love this forum is so I can learn all about the problems I hope I never have to deal with and help those that do suffer from them, even if just telling a guy what that part that broke is.

If I'm down that way I'll definitely give you a shout, can't pass up a free beer even if it's a thousand miles away.

Good luck with the repairs.
