Service Intervals
I recently received a postcard, email and phone call from my dealer saying it was time to service my JKU. The manual says 6 months or 8,000 miles. It has only been 3 months and 5,000 miles on my JKU. So I called up the dealer and got hold of what sounded like a ditsy girl. She said not to worry about it, it was probably the dealer’s mistake and I should just come in later. Any thoughts. I am concerned this could affect my warranty or whatever. Should I trust this not so sure sounding employee?
I did my first oil change at 2000 miles. I also called the stealership, and told them to stop sending me those reminders. At 9000 I changed all the fluids. I did get a letter the other day from the dealer for a free state inspection. So I paid my local mechanic to inspect it. I only take it to the stealership for warranty, or recall work. Then I tell them not to look at anything else.
It is a routine letter. They have absolutely no idea how many miles it has. They are fishing for some business. No need to do service other than what is required per the manual. Having said that, many people on here change their oil every 5000 miles. I am one of them and now have 27,000 on my 2012 JKU. It's been flawless so far. I do all my own work and keep a log book with receipts to prove the maintenance is done within the proper intervals.
Uh whut? Why would u do that? I guess there's nothing wrong with that, just seems like a waste... I run full synthetic so according to RP I could go up to a 12k mile (19000km) change interval, but I change it when I feel it... Usually around the 9k km (5500 miles) mark...
Lots of threads on here about oil change intervals. IMHO, the consensus is that 3000 miles is a waste in modern engines with quality oil. The oil can certainly go much longer than that. I choose 5,000 miles as a good compromise between the old-school recommendation of 3000 and the Chrysler recommendation of 8000 max. Also, 5000 miles is very easy to remember.

Primary reason to not exceed 8000 miles - to preserve the factory warranty. I bought a lifetime warranty. I won't give the dealer any excuse not to honor it. If your engine fails and you have been using the best oil in the world, I don't think they would honor the warranty if you have been exceeding the 8000 max interval.
When i was there for a (free) oil change, Huntington Jeep Service tried to pass off some BS that I needed some scheduled maintenance (brake check, retorque stuff). It was $120ish so I declined. When I checked the manual, there was nothing in there for my mileage. I went back in and called them out on it and they said that's what they have in their computer. I stopped going there.
