Soft Top Leaks Anyone?
just got mine back from the dealer for the second time to work on soft top leaks....(now i hope they didn't change something that will cause a hard top leak when i put that back on....). they replaced all the seals around the door, the header, adjusted the soft top somehow and adjusted the door so that it is VERY hard to close now. i don't know if there is some other way to adjust the door, other than just the striker plate though.
it hasn't rained since yesterday, but i hope it doesn't leak now.
i leave the door hinge nuts out and the stealer didn't say anything about them being out

You can adjust the door by bending the top of the door frame in. This is not easy to do on some cars and you really need to know what to do. We do this sometimes at my work, I do autobody.
It is pouring right now here in MI. MY JK is leaking bad on both sides. My uncle looked at it and he thinks that the problem is that the rubber channel on the outside where the soft top meets the windshield acts as a funnel. The water runs down it to the sides (this causes the rainfall). This part we already knew, but in the upper corner of the rubber sealing of the door frame (closest to the front of the vehicle) there is a large, long section that is cut out. The water gets in there and seeps inside of the rubber sealing. It travels along the sealing and can come out in the middle of the door, where you can see on the inside of the door there's a notch cut out of the sealing. At any rate, my floor mats had quite a bit of water in them this morning and my driver side carpet is wet.
How in the hell can a company that's been making a vehicle for over 60 years not be able to make or contract with a company to make a top that doesn't leak?
This really pisses me off.

not all jeeps leak or have problems- and the more the dealer works on it the more problems they create - my dealer put a door seal on and somehow managed to bend the door, maybe it was because they replaced it twice? and when they removed the cowl they left metal shavings that rusted through the paint - etc, etc. all while trying to fix the leaky softop.
make sure to keep records of all dates you were affected - including all dates it rained or it was at the dealer. keep dates when you made contacts too. seems like a pain in the ass but a lot easier than being stuck with a leaky jeep or worse - taking into the dealer every week for them to hose something else up.
check with your states consumer affairs department and draft 3 letters listing dates your jeep was in shop and what was done, just change the addressee - 1 to DC Jeep, 1 to the dealer, and 1 to your states government agency that manages lemon laws - and make sure to send certified mail. i made the mistake and mailed letters the 1st time, emailed jeep, and even mailed the 'convenient' card in your owners manual and they conveniently ignored them all.
the dealer should be contacting you and when they do tell them you wish to pursue the lemon law based on yours states statutes.
my dealer says the process takes about 3 weeks, once they send info off to DC jeep, to get into another jeep. i'm on week 2 - so we shall see.
maybe if everyone goes after the lemon law they will fix the problem!
PS - i removed all the carpet and put in jeeps' rubber liner - it sucks - lot of areas are not not molded properly to prevent edges from flapping in the wind. you'll have to reuse the rear CARPETED cargo lid/cover - because the liner kit does not come with a rubber cover. also the rubber mold in the 1x2' cargo storage wasn't deep enough (3" vs actual depth of 5") so when you put stuff in it it pulls all the surrounding rubber down into the area - i ended up cutting it out - looks like crap but at least it's funcitonal.

Mine leaks like a sieve. I simply jam a tea-towel in the door(s) and curse a lot. I was thinking of buying a rain spout and wooden barrel but decided against it, because a towel is much easier plus, I curse a lot anyway.
Well, it's time to kick in the Michigan Lemon Law. My JK is still leaking on the passenger side and getting my carpet wet. I am sending out my letter to DCX so that they can have someone make the fourth and final repair under the MI lemon law.
By the way, they did bend the top of my door frames in a little bit. Apparently, that did not work.

Mine leaked so bad the carpet was soaked when it rained and the seat too.....had it in numerous times to the dealership.....they tried everything they knew to try.......called in 7 of us with chronic leaky tops to the dealership last week........had 3 engineers from chrysler come down with all kinds of new seals and parts.....they added some steel on the top and put on all new seals around the top and doors on all sides.....had it out in severe rainstorms twice now and no leaks.......even had the top off and back on and still no leaks......i'm hoping it's fixed but i'm not sure these parts are yet available to everyone as my dealership called in the big guns to deal with our leaks......
