Default Steering box issues

So I was on my way home from work Thursday morning when I jump a curb at low speed to greet my mom who was getting a cup of coffee on her way to work. Well after i tried to straighten out the wheel to park I hear a weird grinding noise, but really didn't pay to much attention to it. After chit chatting I go to pull out and hear the same grinding noise this time realizing something must be wrong but couldn't feel or notice anything off about the jeep, that is until I pull out into traffic. Steering feels extremely heavy, and the jeep is pulling every which way but straight. I sum it up to, I must have sent my alignment out of whack taking that curb at 2 mph, oh well haven't had one in 2 years it's time anyway. Get to my local goodyear for the alignment, which by the way they have an amazing 3 year unlimited mile realignment program for $180 out the door. Sure enough it was all out of whack, techs get it back to spec but doesnt fix the heavy steering issue, and now I'm noticing the steering wheel when making a right turn doesn't have the same travel to full lock as to turning to the left. In fact its several revolutions less making my right turns extremely wide and cumbersome, yet its turning on a dime to the left. So the gears in my head start turning and I'm thinking some how the steering column slipped in side the steering box causing the issues, has any one ever experienced this or heard of it, and if so how the hell do I correct it, cause the jeep is anything but a treat to drive in this state.

So when you had your alignment done they couldn't find anything loose or broke ? Tie rod ends, drag link , check your steering stabilizer

there is nothing a shop can do to "align" the JK except set the toe in/out so I hope you didn't pay them the $180.00. I would also ask them to describe exactly what they did to correct your alignment that was all out of whack

as far as your issues go I agree that I would remove the stabilizer first and then road test again. It sounds like it may be your steering box but you need to narrow it down.

Sounds like you broke your steering box, warning do not drive till it's fixed!!! I was in a Cj5 when the steering box completely failed we almost ran Into a dump truck at 40mph, very scary!!

No when they were under there everything looked ok, they said the steering still felt funny, but it was no longer pulling to the left or right, which it doesn't.

I did pay them the $180. They printed out the pictures and specs of the alignment before and after, i don't believe the stabilizers could be the problem due to the lack of steering travel to the right

I mentioned the steering stabilizer ,because if mounting brackets came loose and shifted it could restrict turning . Might look at the pitman arm also, see if it might have come loose!..

Loss of right turning radius is often the SS.

Well I've got a dual steering stabilizer from rough county and when they had the jeep up on the lift the stabilizers looked fine, but I'll definitely be getting under jeep tomorrow and check the pitman arm along with everything else again
