Steering wobbles or "hops" while turning

Well, I went wheeling last weekend and fear I've broken something. Trouble is, can't figure out exactly what.

Problem: The steering wobbles or "hops" when turning. It has to be a somewhat sharp turn like an intersection. Nothing happens driving down the road. When I say "hop", I mean it feels like my 76 Blazer with locking hubs when it's been left in 4wd. The problem is that I'm in 2H!

Any ideas on what could cause this would be greatly appreciated. I focused initial efforts on the wheels, brakes, and tie rods but those look solid.

Obvious idea here but is it possible that your shifter is messed up and its actually still in 4 high?

Axle u-joint(s) seizing up.

X 2 Broken transfer case shift cable plastic linkage? At the transfer case end it won't trigger the 4WD light on the dash.
If so good news because it's like a 50 cent part.

X2. I just had mine replaced last month and had the exact same issues as you described.

Tire rub or u-joint would be my guess.

Axle u-joints

Thanks for the tips guys. The transfer case checked out OK. Took it in to the dealer and they said the U-joints were fine. They were insistent that it was the stablizer and a ball joint. Replaced the joint and put in a Rancho stabilizer. The tug is still there and I just had my first experience with Death Wobble! Argh! Back in the shop again tomorrow. Hopefully they just replace the joints as I asked the first time:naw:

Check your toe-in. You might have bent your tie rod (which is pretty damn common).

Got the same problem and it disappear by it self. I think it related to the u joint
