Default Stuck oil filter.

Hello, I'm Trying to change the oil in our 2010 jeep and I have drained the oil from the oil pan and now I'm g to get the oil filter off.. And I can't. The filter will move a little bit but it will not come loose from the engine at all.. And suggestions? And I have Been using a oil filter band thing that wraps around it but I can't get it off.. So I'm kinda fucked. Any help would be greatly appriecieadted.

you need a filter wrench with teeth on it also make sure
you turning the right direction righty tighty lefty loosy if all else fails take a hammer and drive a large screwdriver all the way thru it as close to the base as possible and turn it , wal mart should have the filter wrench with teeth if u have another vehicle to get you there or an auto parts store

Sorry to ask but are you turning it counter clockwise (to the left)? It should screw off pretty easily with a filter wrench if you turn it int the correct direction.

I have ran a screwdriver though a badly stuck filter. Just make sure to do it about half way up the filter. Use one long enough to go all the way through and go where you can get to both ends of the screwdriver. Make sure to put fresh oil on the new filter gasket and threads and don't over tighten.

pipe wrench is a good option if you have one, else screwdriver throught the filter as suggested above... and use the right hand rule to make sure you are turing the correct direction... its easy to get spun around when you are on your back so no shame in getting it wrong.

I had one stuck so bad I did the screwdriver trick and ripped the oil filter in half. So when that happened I used the screwdriver at an angle and tapped it where the seal was and it spun off then

Before doing the screwdriver thing I'd get a filter wrench. The kind that uses a 3/8 drive and goes over the notches in the filter. You'll need to match it for fit with an exact filter like you have. Each filter manufacturer seems to be a bit different in size. Good luck

That or you can get one of those filter wrenches that uses a woven strap rather than the metal band.
