Default stuck in park

This happened three times in the past two weeks. When I initialy start up the jeep and go to put it into drive, it is stuck in park. So, I just restart it and it's fine. Has this happened to anyone before? Am I doing something wrong? If there is indeed a problem, is there a tsb for it? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you depress the brake prior to trying to shift out of park.

X3 - If I get in a hurry it gets stuck. I push the shifter all the way up, mush the brake and I'm off...

Oh, so don't press the shifter button before pressing the brake? I get it. Thats probably it. It's weird though that I only started doing this like last week. I guess I'm getting a little too comfortable with the JK

Hey Man I just had a similar issue with my 07 I backed up in my driveway and it got stuck in reverse, twice before i had the stuck in park issue and blew it off as my fault but on Sunday my jeep got stuck in reverse and had to be towed to the dealer they replace the whole shifter assembly because it went bad. This might not be your issue but ask your dealer to check it out. It took mine 3 days to get me my jeep back

Mine gets stuck in park also at times. If I let up on the brake pedal and then depress it again it works.

Maybe the brake switch is bad or has to be adjusted????

Hmmm...mine does it too. Not all the time, but enough to be annoying. Thought it was just me.

Thanks for the post! I thought it was some wierd thing where I was hitting the wrong button or something. I'l usually have tp press the brake harder and try again. And it usually works the second time.

Default Shift Lock Manual Override

In my 08 manual, page 280 talks about this !

Your vehicle may be equipped with a shift lock manual
override. The manual override may be used in the event
that the shift lever should fail to move from Park with the
key in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed. To
operate the shift lock manual override, perform the
following steps:
1. Firmly set the parking brake.
2. Using a flat blade screwdriver, carefully remove the
shift lock manual override cover which is located on the
PRNDL bezel, in front of the P (Park) graphic.
3. Depress and maintain firm pressure on the service
brake pedal.
4. Using the screwdriver, reach into the manual override
opening. Press and hold the shift lock lever down.
5. Depress the shifter release button and shift into N
(Neutral).
6. The vehicle may then be started in N (Neutral).
Have your vehicle inspected by your local authorized
dealer, if the shift lock manual override has been used.
