I thought I was retarded too. I get in, start er up, hit the brake, push the button and pull. 98% of the time I am rolling. The other 2% I have to release the brake and the button, push the brake in a again, wait a sec or 2, then push the button and shift. Pisses me right off too.

Practiced in my wife's G6, you can push in the shifter button, THEN depress the brake pedal and it will still let you shift. Not so on the Heep. Damn chrysler....

I have had this happen a number of times a well... once I was out wheeling and was hitch up to pull a XK out of a mud hole and he started spinning and I couldn't get the damn thing out of park! We had to shut down the whole show and get people to rock my JK while I played with the brake and shifter to get it to come out. Using Lo range seems to make mine act up a lot. I try to leave it in neutral and use the e-brake when I am off road just in case.

I so wish I got a stick after finding out the the what a POS this auto is...

Alot of the time when I'm just starting out, I grab the shifter, punch the button and it won't move. I just let go and punch the button a 2nd time and it slides right back. My foot is on the brake the whole time.

May be same, may be different..

hmm I don't know. Next time it happens, I'll see if it's cause of user error (press button before brake) or if it's another "jeep thing". Oh and I forgot to mention this, but the first time it happened, I shut it off and imediatly turned the jeep back on (not a good idea) and the engine was turning over for really long (like 4 secs).

Default Couldn't shift out of neutral

Ran the JK thru the local car wash last week. Engine was running and shifter was in neutral per car wash instructions. At the end of the line, i couldn't shift into drive. It was locked up. There was a car coming up behind me!!! After four or five tries, it finally shifted. Very dangerous situation. What is up with this problem? I am afraid that in this situation, you don't have time to find a screwdriver and fiddle with the the described procedure in the 08 manual. Is there a fix or a TSB on this problem? I hope it never happens again.

I use to drive a truck with a clutch.

I keep slamming my foot in to the floor!

I also keep turning off my lights when it's raining.
