Default Stuttering 3.6

My 2012 JK stutter now and then. Always at about 1500-1700 RPMS. Today by accident I noticed that when it stutters the voltage drops about one volt, and then slowly recovers. It was running about 14.7, and dropped to 13.7 this morning. Then on the way home from work it stuttered, and I saw it recovering again. There are no codes at all, so I really don't know what to think. It still has it's original battery. Any ideas out there. I really am disliking the electronics in this thing. They are the only thing I have had issues with.

Start with the simple stuff...

Check the battery terminals for corrosion and for being tight.

If a battery terminal connection is not good, the alternator will see it as being disconnected and will shut itself off until the connection is re-established.
This could be felt as the stutter you describe.

Also, the 14.7 volts you see seems a little high to me.

It has always been high since I installed the gauge. At first I thought the gauge was bad, but all three of my multimeters back it up. It should be lower. 14.2 in the winter, but this one always runs about 14.9 when it is cold out. I checked the terminals, they were checked and have been greased since day one. That is one of the first things I did when I brought it home. It is engine that is stuttering. This thing is start to irritate me with the minor electronic glitches it has had since I bought it. Never the same thing twice. I will never buy another new vehicle. This only the second new vehicle I have ever bought. I will say the other one was a bigger POS. I have only own five vehicles in the past 37 years, and the new ones were the only ones that have not been reliable.

There have been a few threads on here about this hesitation, though I have not seen any that offer a cause or solution. My 2012 with 71,000 miles started doing this maybe 6 months ago. Happens in the RPM range you described. In almost every instance, it seems to happen when I have momentarily taken my foot off the gas pedal, then pushed it again. Makes me think it is a fuel delivery stutter. I have lifetime warranty, but because this happens so intermittently, I doubt the dealer would be any help. It doesn't do it enough for me to be too worried, but I'm keeping my eye on it.

Sounds like the exact same thing mine is doing. Mine being a manual, I seem to feel it more it started doing it once and a while, but it is getting more often now. I though it may have been cylinder head related, till I saw the voltage drop. I wonder if there is another flash to fix this. I does seem to be mixture related. It does happen when I get off the gas, then back on at those RPMS.

Mine is a manual also. Sounds like we are seeing the same thing. Probably not battery related. I have a relatively new battery. My original one died last year. A common theme with the stutter is that I've just made a turn at a traffic light, I'm coasting, then give it gas to start going again and the momentary stutter happens. Just enough to say to yourself wtf was that? Then it's gone and runs fine.

That is how mine started at the end of last summer. It is getting worse. Still random, but now it more often.

Yes, I know it is your engine that is stuttering. My point was, when a battery terminal is momentarily disconnected from being loose or corroded, the alternator senses it and the pcm shuts off the field. Without the battery and without the alternator, the coils and injectors get no power.

I had similar problem, hesitation for several months, thought the cold windy winter weather was contributing, I have soft top and would only happen around 50-60 mph at 2500 rpm but with loud noise I could not determine what was causing what felt like a shudder through my gas pedal. 65K, I changed plugs and the PCV this weekend and now jeep is running really good, my plugs were toast and PCV did not look bad but changed it anyway. I know yours is pretty new but this fix may help others with higher mileage and never have changed their plugs.

Do you have the 3.6 engine? I don't think what you are describing matches what I've had. Mine never happens on highway at rpms that high. Normally happens in 2nd or 3rd gear around 1600-1800 rpms. Always below 2000.
