"sunrider" help?
Hi guys:
Having a bit of an issue here in Canada. Long story short (or as short as I can make it):
2007 2-doors didn't come with Sunriders. They did in the States (or had the option). I call around thinking I could buy one. No such luck - not available in Canada. I get a brochure saying they are available.
I e-mail Chrysler thinking they aren't going to be much help, low and behold, they are pretty awesome, getting a Manager involved. She says no Sunrider roofs available BUT her tech dept says it is just a matter of buying the components from the parts department to convert the roof to a Sunrider top. I think SCORE! cheaper option. No so much. I contact my parts dept. who apparently thinks I'm going to kill myself. He calls the tech department and asks them about safety and they say they won't comment (liability reasons). So, of course, at this point they will not tell him the parts necessary or how to put them together to create the soft top - Sunrider components. Poor guy is at a loss.
ARRGGGHHHH. WHY DO THEY NOT TEACH THEIR PART GUYS ANYTHING ABOUT JEEPS????
I have to think that in the mechanic's manual, at least the American version, there has to be a discussion of how to fix a Sunrider and how it is put together... Or in the 2008 version given that they are now apparently stock...
Anyone have any ideas or know all the part numbers for the Sunrider off the top of their heads?
(Told you it wasn't going to be short)

hey fellow ontarian! if i were u, it would be way easier to dump the top that you have now and buy a new sunrider used/new either off this forum or eBay/craigslist. lots of people are choosing not to run both tops and dumping one or the other and letting them go for fairly reasonable prices. i'm not sure on the part number but sounds like u had a hell of an ordeal/conversation! i understand ur frustration man...good luck w/what ever road u go down.

Trying to retrofit the top seems way to complicated. I am sure someone south of the border has a top for sale
Gawd, I'm never going to get where posts should go. Sorry!!
I've tried to buy another top. Problem is that the shipping / customs charges is proving astronomical. And as I understand this option, it is only two arms that are required ie. less than $100...
Of course, if anyone in Canada has one they want to dump....
So, still looking for diagrams, part numbers anything that anyone might have...
(But thanks for the sympathy!!)

well i went to the dealer today to get my rusty windsheild bolt replacement and also my splash guards....so i also told them they need to replace my sunrider top. all the leaks ive had have caused the sunrider portion to start rusting and bolts are croding. the service manager said they were ordering a new bow kit for me so i should have the part numbers for you when they come in. by the way i drive a black 2dr 08 x didnt notice if yours was an unlimted...ill post soon as i can.....cheers

I've been trying for a year to find out what I need to convert my standard top to a Sunrider. I've contacted Chrysler and Bestop, both were no help, told me to see my dealer. My dealer says there were no Sunrider's on 2 doors in 2007 but I know that isn't true. I've been watching here and on Ebay for a Sunrider to come up in my area, but no luck yet. You are right about the shipping costs, the oversize packaging makes it extremely expensive. I think the canvas on the Sunrider is the same as a standard top but I'm not sure. Maybe I'll get lucky and find someone around here with a Sunrider so I can put them next to each other and compare parts. If anyone comes up with some answers about this, please post them here, we would all appreciate it a lot.
My 2007 2dr has the sunrider option.... So yes, you're right that they were available.
Perhaps you should try a vendor like Quadratec. They seem to have plenty of Mopar parts, so they may have access to the information needed to buy the parts.
I'm not sure about the soft top itself, but I'm sure frame-wise all you need is a couple of bows to be replaced. Since Quadratec is a larger company, they may be able to help with shipping costs/getting it over the border.

There are no aftermarket Sunriders available anywhere. Even Bestop, the manufacturer, doesn't sell them or parts. I believe Chrysler has the patent and won't release it to aftermarketers. Sort of like when they came out with ATF+4 and you had to buy it from Chrysler for several years before they let the aftermarket sell it. Have you ever compared your Sunrider to a standard soft top? Is the fabric the same. My standard top has a break in the front side plastic clip rails that attach over the doors. I think the Sunrider folds at that break if you have the front bow that will fold up. My bow is one solid piece down the side.
