Throttle Body Replacement Results
Don't post much here, but thought my throttle body / ETC recent experience might be helpful to someone.
Earlier this week I was driving down a street at 35 mph, heard the ding and saw the ETC and Traction Control lights illuminated on the dash. Jeep went into limp mode, engine would only accelerate to 2,000 rmp Turned the engine off and it started without any dash ligts. Ran normal until it went to idle, same thing again - lights and limp mode.
I removed the throttle body, cleaned it thoroughly, put dielectric grease on the plug and reassembled. Same thing - lights and limp mode if the Jeep idled for a minute or more. Went to NAPA and purchased a new one. It is a Cardone brand. Not cheap! Also had a core charge for the OEM one to be returned.
Installed the new one - issues resolved. Plus some unexpected positive results:
-Jeep had been bad about stalling. If I bogged the engine below 1,000 rpm taking off, especially up a grade, engine would choke and die. Problem no longer existed.
-Start up rpm goes to about 1200-1400 rpm and steps down when cold. Like it use to.
-Engine idles down to 600 rpm now
-This does not seem plausible - but pre-ignition detonation is gone. Was the old ETC running the eninge lean?? Don't know, the closed loop exhaust system should have compensated.
Note about calibration. I read several posts about required calibration - the key one, depress accelerator pedal slowly, release slowly, dey off. I think my 2008 JK X 6 speed calibrated every key cyl it moved e if given time before starting. I had my wife look at the butterfly to see if moved with the accelerator.No. lt cycled when the key was turn on. Did not move with the pedal.
Anyway, long post. Runs good now. Idle still not smooth like my Honda 3.5L, but it is running fine again.
So this benefits someone. Cheers!
