Time bomb or not!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I'm a new jeep owner I have a 2012 rubicon with the 3.6 and i have 1600 miles on it and have nothing but good things to say about it.after reading all the stuff on the 3.6 I find myself constantly listening to the motor for ticking and being real careful with my jeep . I bought a jeep to not have to worry about going or doing what ever I wanted to do in it so what's up is it just a matter of time before my motor starts to have a problem or not . Is this going to happen to every 2012 or only a select few .
I would just make sure you do what is required to maintain the warranty ( oil changes etc).
I think you will find that the good engines out weigh the bad ones.
It's just that the people who have problems are more vocal.
I have no numbers to back this up, but i imagine for every active member on this forum, there are at least 2-3 owners who dont belong to any forum driving along perfectly happy with their jeeps.
We are the vocal minority

Just like anything that is mass produced, there will be some that have issues. This goes for TV's, phones, laptops, and even automobiles. IMO, drive it with no worries. When/if you ever get a problem, be glad it is under warranty. But don't let a few people's issues worry you. those are the same people worried about losing a limb if you drive without your doors! LOL. People that worry the most, have less fun!

It is enough of a problem that supposedly Chrystler does not have enough cylinder heads to keep up with the demand for replacements from thier dealers. I have read that the dealers were told to stop replacing the heads immediately but still makes you wonder how many people are actually having an issue. There is someone on this forum waiting in line for his replacements heads and the dealer can't get any.
Obviously this is all second hand information.
I own a 2012 JKU too. I listen to it like a hawk but nothing so far. Only 8K miles.

FWIW, here are a few snips from an autonews.com article published yesterday:
"After Chrysler executives spoke with Automotive News, the source with access to the company's parts database said Chrysler "flooded" its system with new replacement parts last week, eliminating a bank of about 1,300 unfilled orders nationwide. He said the company now has nearly 3,000 available parts to fill dealer orders."
"The average weekly demand had risen to more than 500 new requests."
"Betts said the problem has been found in about half of 1 percent, or about 7,500 of the approximately 1.5 million Pentastar engines that were built over the past two years. Betts acknowledged, however, that more problem cylinder heads could surface."
"He said the malfunctions were the result of "an interaction of a lot of rare things that ultimately come together to affect a small percentage of the population." Those could include different fuel mixes and the way the vehicle is driven, he said, though he did not explain further."
