Default Tire recommendations

Ok, I got a 07 Sahara unlimited with the 18 inch wheels. Its going to be a 90% street, 10% off road rig. No lift for a while, but I need new tires soon.
The options I've come up with

1) 255/70/18 replacement-- These are expensive and have a street tread on them

2) 265/70/18 --More options here, I can get an all terrain tread, and the price is a little cheaper, but will they fit without serious rubbing?

3) Rubicon 17 take offs-- Should I monitor craiglist for some rubicon take offs? This are louder mud terrains ( I perfer AT) , but the 17 rims seem to have many more options for tires down the road

4)?

What do you guys think?
Tom

265/70/18 will NOT rub
I would go with the 265 if it were me, more choices and better price

I would also go with the 265's. An A/T tire will be much better for the 90% DD you plan on having.
265's will only stick out about 1/4" futher than the the 255.

Michelin LTX M/S or A/T. Ive used these tires on all of our trucks and we get 90k plus on them before they need to be replaced. Plus they have incredible snow traction for a tire that is an on road tire and it get good mud traction too. FYI we plow snow and landscape so you know how much abuse they take. Im getting them on mine along with a 2 inch lift although people here tell me the lift inst necessary.

I agree that if you stick with the 18's, that you go with the 265.

255 x 70 r18 is 32 x 10 r18
265 x 70 r18 is 32.5 x 10.5 r18

As you can see its not much of a difference.

If I didn't have to deal with snow and ice I would go with the rubicon take offs. I ended up with 275/65R18 Duratracs myself for the winter traction I need without needing to change tires in the summer.

Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S seems to be the type of tire your looking for at a fair price. ~$150

+1 on the DuraTracs. These are quickly becoming a popular choice for the non hardcore wheelers on the forum here.

That of a BFG AT KO. Those wear like iron but are a little worse off road in the mud due to their tighter tread pattern.

Really though, a set of take off Rubi tires is probably your best price/performance bet.
