Question Tow package question

Does anyone know exactly what is included in the factory tow package on the '08s besides the hitch, wiring, and 3.73 axle?

Thanks,
Tim

This may not be so helpful...but when I was looking for my 2007 X I asked a number of dealers about what else came with the tow package aside from the receiver, 4pin wiring, and (on the 07) 4.10 gears. I got a variety of answers but it turned out there was nothing else different (e.g. there was no better oil or trans cooler or anything else). I would guess the same goes for the 08s.

Thats' kind of the same type of answers I got.

I have seen a couple of references to using synthetic diff lube for towing. Made me wonder if I should change mine.

Thanks,
Tim

Default trans cooler

if you have a auto trans with factory towing the trains cooler should be on the outside of the radiator, mine is. With out towing package and auto the trans cooler is part of the radiator. Check it out.

Sorry,

Should have mentioned that I have an '08 Wrangler X 2 door with 6spd and 3.73 rearend, with 17" rims and the "heavy duty" gas shocks.

I though I read in a magazine that the tow package gets you larger axle shafts but I can't confirm this. I'd like to know. If it gets the Rubicon's 33 spline shafts, I wonder if I can retrofit a Rubi locker...?

One added benefit of the tow package: protection.
I bought mine Monday October 1st. On Wednesday some stupid uninsured driver rear ended me going about 15 mph. It jolted my Jeep pretty good. The hitch put a nice square hole in his plastic bumper and the spare tire put a dent in his hood. Aside from a couple two inch scratches on my plastic bumper and silver paint on the receiver, there is no visible damage. I will still take it in for a checkup. But, if the hitch wasn't there the damage would have been in the thousands! He would have submarined under the Jeep and taken out my muffler, track bar and axle. Also note that the stock receiver doesn't have a large horizontal crossbar and is tucked up well under the bumper. So, I will probably leave it there even after putting on a steel bumper.
