Can someone explain to me WHY The JK 4 dr Tow package w/4.10 can only tow 3500lbs and the liberty with a 3.7L and tow package is somewhere near or above 5000lbs...? is it the tranny?

3500.... ?!?!!? dang, i thought it was 4500.... glad i didn't tow too much weight yet. About the braking, i've notices that hydrolic assist is nice to have under the hood. a few times i've slammed on the brakes and you can tell its under there helping out. anyway, i personally would be very very tempted to tow more than 3500 pounds with my four door JK as i think it can do it... but i'm no DC engineer so if you agree with me, do so at your own risk. Chances are i'll never need to tow that much anyway.

i towed 3700lbs for 600 miles with my 2 Door.
technically not very smart, but i only had problems when the roads started going uphill. i just spent most of the time in 5th gear. no problems braking.
so, i was 1200lbs over the limit. i had no idea the trailer was that heavy until i got to the scales at the end of the trip. i am obviously terrible at estimating weight, but it worked out okay.
i have the 4.10 gears in the rubicon, stock BFG's at the time.

Hi
The the 5000 pound rated liberty uses a hybrid mechanical/electrical cooling fan, while the jk uses electrical only. Both have the same transmission (except liberties manufactured till mid 2003 that had optional 45RFE).
