Default TPMS when changing wheels

I currently have an 08 Sahara with the stock 18's. When I buy new tires, I'm thinking about going to 17's or 16's. Can I just swap the current TPMS in the stock wheels to the new ones, or does something else need to be done, too?

I think that you can get a rebuild kit for like $20.

I just got new rims and tires on my 11 Jk and I had the shop swap all 5 tpms sensors for me. I haven't had a problem yet.

On a side note.....some wheels it may not work with. I couldn't get them put on mine. Tire guys said they tried. I didn't really question it though.

The rebulild kit isn't what you need. Take it to discount tire if there is one in your area. They can put it on just about any wheel. If the sensor wont fit where the valve stem goes, we used to band them to the drop center of the wheel similar to the way ford did them, remove the valve core and install a regular valve stem into the wheel. Worked perfectly fine with no ride complaints.

Good to know. I don't think I have a discount tire around me, so I'll have to check with the local dealer. If I change wheels, it will probably just be to moabs so everything is still stock, but we'll see. I really like the MB72's.

X2. They will band it and but a regular valve stem on. On a side note...I've seen a ford vehicle with banded TPMS sensors on the wheels
