Traction control
That way only partially disables the ESP. For 07's, a dealer has to re-flash your Jeep, the "steering wheel dance" doesn't apply to 07's. Best way to go is a simple on off kill switch. There's a few threads on here that will show people with 08 and newer jeeps the steering wheel procedure for full off.
My'08 went in for the "Hot Oil" warning flash, at which time they added the ESC disable feature, (Steering Wheel Dance).
They gave me an addendum for the owner's manual with the instructions.
If yours has not had the reflash, you may not be able to disable ESC permanently.
The following procedure will disable (or re-enable) ESC
functionality in the vehicle:
1. Shift the transfer case into the 4H range position.
2. Turn the steering wheel until it is centered and the
wheels are pointed straight ahead.
3. Cycle the ignition key OFF to ON.
4. Wait approximately five seconds for the system bulb
check.
5. Turn and hold the steering wheel one-half turn to the
right (clockwise).
6. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
7. Turn the steering wheel back to center, and turn and
hold an additional one-half turn to the left (counterclockwise).
8. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
9. Turn the steering wheel back to center.
10. Press and hold the ESC OFF button for seven seconds.
11. Cycle the ignition key to OFF.
After performing the ESC disable procedure correctly,
“ESC OFF” will be displayed in the odometer for approximately
12 seconds each time the ignition is moved
to ON. Repeating the ESC disable procedure will reenable
normal ESC operation.

To reset the ESP after disabling- I just turn my Jeep on an off again
"I don't understand why he would post that, since it's not the correct procedure."
I don't know- I just went out and did it again and it worked?
Mine is an 07- I hold the button (guess I don't need to?) and do the dance- ESP off. The dealer could have re-flashed it before I bought it (new to me) or when I brought it in for what I thought was a clockspring issue.

x2 right, and it isn't 'full off'. Full off disables ESP, BAS, ABS. The wheel dance does not work on 07's for full off. Assuming your ESP is all the way off, what lights appear on your dash?

How did u do that? What wires did u tap?
There's a thread here on it, but I can simplify it for ya here....
-At your main wiring harness that runs next to gas pedal, and through under your center console (big taped bundle of wires) find the light blue wire with straight purple stripe (note there's one light blue/purple wire that's twisted, not the one to cut)
-Go ahead and cut the straight light blue wire with purple stripe.
-run two new lengths of wire from each of the cut ends from blue/purple wire. (obviously length will vary depending on where you want your switch, same with where you decide to cut the main wire)
-Connect those two new wires to your new switch, and that's it, even easier than it sounds!
-I used a basic single throw switch, as it had only two connectors, making it even easier and self explanatory to wire up. I cut the main wire in harness to the right of the gas pedal, close and easy to access.
-You can use a lighted switch, but the light will be on all the time when you haven't flipped switch to disable esp.
-This completely turns off ESP, BAS, ABS, and ERM.
-When working properly, you'll have 3 lights on your dash: ESP, BAS, and the swerving Jeep.
-Whole program goes back to normal stock once you've turned off and re-started your Jeep.
I was weary about this at first, but it really is quick and easy, hardest part is deciding where your switch will go and drilling the new hole if one's needed. Very handy to have! good luck!

Just to be clear tho.... After I flip switch to shut everything off those lights will turn on on my dash? And when I flip switch back this will not turn it back on, but I have to cycle to ignition and turn completely off then back on and it will be back to normal?

What Ron said, and applies to 07's as well
I have an 07. If the computer has been reflashed as part of any past recalls you will have received an ammended form to put in your owners manual explaining how to do the steering wheel dance to disable ESP completely. I had the "Hot Oil" recall done and my computer was reflashed several months ago and I now have the ability to do the dance to turn ESP off.
