Trade in

Stupid question. I have a brand new 2012 with 700 miles. It's a stick my wife just can't get down driving the stick. She wants the jeep as a second car so when the kids are at school she dose not need to drive around the suburban. What would the dealer say if I go back and trade it in for an automatic. I haven't even made a payment yet. What do you guys say. Thanks a lot.

How's your relationship with your dealer? It's gonna come squarely down to that. Personally I can't see them going for it, but you never know. good luck, and let us know...

You'll most likely pay extra for it. Since the Automatic is an "expensive" option.

I would say go for it if they don't try to screw you too much. BUT as they say, Practice, Practice, Practice. Eventually she'll learn and drive it second nature.

They will be glad to see you trade it back into them but be prepared to take the hit. Expect to lose about 2-3K from what you originally paid + add for the more expensive auto trans on the one you are going to buy.

Would be cheaper to get the wife driving lessons

I agree. They would love to take your money again

It will cost more than you think

Let's say that the dealer agrees to take your JK back at standard depreciation rates and charges you for the auto tranny on the new JK, you are probably looking at a hit of about $4K to $5K in direct costs. BUT, you are going to have to cancel the finance contract on the first JK, that will not be cheap, and you will have to open up a new finance contract on JK #2. Then you will have to pay to register and license the new JK, and also pay state and local taxes a second time. Unless you have money to burn, I think that you should have AAA teach her to drive a stick or even a friend teach her. But in no case should you try to teach her. Best of luck. On the other hand, my wife hates my JK and won't ride in it, a benefit I never planned on !

your best option so far. the dealer is gonna stick it to and you will lose cash in the end. just teach the wife how to drive the stick, you save cash and she see's how fun it is to drive.

Well you are all right. They are running the numbers now for a black 2013 sport. I am in the hole 5000. O well it's only money, it's not a done deal I will let you know.
