I have an 09 Unlimited Rubicon that has abut 15000 miles. I've had it for about 5 weeks and I finally got it off road today. Nothing too nasty but I did need 4WD but when I reached down for the shifter it moved freely. No resistance at all. I couldn't get it into 4WD at all. It worked fine when I tried it a couple of weeks ago but today nothing. Anyone ever run into this? Any suggestions?

There is a plastic clip that holds the linkage on, on the transfer case if u look under your jeep on the driver side up at the transfer case look and see if that clip has broken off. If so u can use a zip tie to put it back into place until you can get another clip which they are like 40 cents

Thanks guys. Once it got it out of the mud and and I cooled down a little I was able to reach under there and get it to shift. It sucks that it comes down to a plastic clip. I guess things have changed since I last owned a Jeep, a CJ7 back in the late 80s.

The good news is after I got the shifter working, I was able to pull my son's Land Rover out of the mud, which is why I went in there to begin with. Score that Jeep 1, Land Rover 0 for my family.

Same thing just happened to my wife's 07 Sahara. Will try this fix when I get home this afternoon. Thanks!

Very common. I had one let loose. Zip ties work well to get it back in temporarily. Here is the part and number from Jeep. I went and got two. Put one on and keep one as a spare onboard for the next time. (You know it's going to happen again with that weak link.)

Has this problem been corrected? Like with a stronger clip or something, or are they still putting this crappy clip on? Any new models having this problem yet?

I don't know if they've fixed it on newer ones yet. Search the threads and you'll find some really good, more durable, fixes guys have done.
