Water seeping through softtop
Hello all,
I have an 09 JK soft top (jeep is 3-4 months old), I was fortunate enough to have to sleep on I-81 when the last snow storm came through Virginia and shut down the interstate...while I was there a good bit of snow built up on the roof over night and started to seep through over my head at one point.
It wasnt coming through any seems or anything, it was coming through the material it looked like. It snowed last night which made me think to post this...anyone know if this is normal or anything like that?? Its never happened before with just rain. Thanks

rain water has gravity to assist it in getting off of your jeep top (thats y the tops are domed). snow just packs up and the warm spot that melts the snow is our top(under the weight of the snow) the water is captive under the snow but above ur top so it just sits there being pushed down by the weight of the snow. eventually the top was going to loose that fight. either by seepage or sweating of the material you were going to get wet. your welcome.
if you put a cube of ice in a plastic bag(i.e. ziplok bag) and hang it up, within a few min water will form on the outside of the bag. same thing happens to the soft top material.
someone else chime in if im wrong here.

If you were sleeping inside it's possible that condensation formed on the inside of the top. Were you running the engine to keep the heat or just covered up with a blanket or a coat?

the interstate was completely shut down, i couldn't get around anyone or i would have. the national guard was activated that night to start pulling the tractor trailers out of the way so the rest of us could pass.
yes i was sleeping in the jeep with my dog...i started it up every 2-3 hours to warm up though.
