I added a wire that goes behind the plastic trim for my rear view mirror
and got that clicking noise

i'm guessing the only way to go is by trial and error!!

hard top or soft.

if its a hard top next time it does it push on the top while driving and see if that does anything.

i had the same problem, i had the creaking every once in a while(every time i drove) and i swore up and down it was coming from the dash or drivers front door
apparently it was also driving my brother nuts and he pushed on the top.....and it stopped. turns out the bolt that holds the front part of the top down backed out a bit.

I had what sounded like a small socket rolling around in the dash.. Drove me nuts.

Took it to the dealer after much looking on my own. Turns out after a complete dash disassembly it was coming from the upper windshield frame area. They took the trim stuff off and found a HUGE bolt rolling around in there. They had to drill a hole in the windshield frame to extract it and send it in to DC for warranty payment.

They also dented the window frame, heading into their bodyshop tomorrow morning to fix the dealer damage...

Last trip to that place for my JK.

Any thoughts? I was excited when I ran across a rattle thread but it was a seatbelt issue. This is not the seatbelt. (Wish it was since you guys found a fix for that!)
Push on the front windshield from the outside close to the area you hear the noise. See if you can replicate it. Post your findings.

Thanks All!

It is a SOFT TOP. But going to try the suggestions Wednesday. I was too aggravated this morning listening to darling daughter complain that it was TOO COLD to have it down! Out of aggravation - it took me 20 minutes (and 19 minutes of Bitchin') to get my top up. Normally takes me less that 3 minutes - but forgot one small step- LOL.

Will try ideas given and post what I find out!

THANKS!

I had a real bad rattle (well, to me any rattle is real bad) in the same area. Turns out, I put the sun shade down and just like magic, it went away. Turns out the rattle was coming from the shade assembly. A little tension made it go away.

Default check for this...

check this thread... it fixed mine. To test, have someone bang on the cowl while you sit inside... sounds crazy, but the noise can travel all the way from there, to the cabin.

I had the EXACT same symtom. Removed the two recessed screws from left corner molding unit,(and moulding unit), above dash running vertical adjacent to windshield and test drove it. Detemined that area was the problem. Inserted more insulation in that area . Noise may still be there, but the insulation will prevent you from hearing it..Been off road several times in rough stuff, and the rattle noise has not returned...
