What is this hole in the tailgate?
 

Can anyone tell me what the hole I've circled in red is for? It's comes with a rubber hole plug in it from the factory and maybe I'm a dummy but I haven't found any info anywhere on what it's for.

It's for a rubber piece that goes in there. I ripped mine out for a cleaner look and never went back. I might have a picture

Mine has that hole, plus a corresponding hole on the left side of the tail gate, through which the 3rd brake light wires exit.

Should have a plug in it. I wouldn't want it filling up with water

Whoops wrong hole. But we got a picture anyways. I ran my cb cable through there.

Ditto with JK505. When I had my CB antenna bracket mounted to the tailgate that's the hole I run the antenna wire and ground thru. :beer:

Yes, that's a very good use for it, but I'm wondering if anyone knows exactly why the Jeep engineers put that hole there. I suppose it could be so people could run their CB antenna through it, but if so, I'd expect to see some documentation to that fact somewhere.

It's a built in crayon sharpener.
