Default Where to attach negative cable to when jumping?

My battery is dead. Can't seem to get it to jump. Where should I be attaching the negative cable to on the Jeep? Can't find the right spot or a spot that is thin enough for the teeth to clamp on to. Thanks!

I've always used:
Attach DEAD BATTERY (+) to GOOD BATTERY (+)
Then DEAD BATTERY (-) to GOOD BATTERY (VEHICLE GROUND)

Any ground should work, right? You could always use the GOOD BATTERY (-), but it might generate a spark and ignite the battery outgas.

I never had any issues either way.

Let the GOOD BATTERY vehicle idle a few minutes to send some charge to the DEAD BATTERY... take the cables off in REVERSE ORDER OF INSTALLATION

Exactly!

I put a plug in the middle of mine so they will connect to the batteries without the possibility of sparks. Sometimes it's difficult to find a good ground that the clamp will grab.

So basically I can just go battery to battery? What about if I'm using a jump pack?

I think the gist of the advice is to make the last connection on a ground other than the battery terminal, so as not to create a spark at the battery, (unless you have a disconnect in the middle as I described).

Well I'm using a jumper pack so now I'm back to the original question. Where to connect the negative in the engine bay. I don't see any bare metal that is small enough to clamp to.

Any bare metal/bolt head on the engine will work.

How about the mount bolt on the alternator bracket?

Don't know much about engines, where is the alternator?
