Mine was built in June '08 and I drove it off the lot on Aug 5th, on the 9th I noticed the rust. The rust must be from the factory

At least yours came with all the bolts. Yes mine are rusting. This is the day I brought it home. Supposedly the Jeep had to be sent to a body shop to put the bolt in. The dealer says there was xtra metal in there from the factory that prevented them from being able to do it. Amazing build quality. Two others were missing on the cowl.

I notice rust on mine right away. I took the brackets off and put some white lithium under it and on the bolts. I

I think I am going to get some plastic washers to put under the torx bolt heads to take away the metal to metal contact.

Default boltheads not painted

These boltheads don't have paint on them, they have a light treatment almost like gunblue. Won't holdup forever. run the bolt out, punch a hole in a piece of cardboard, put the bolt into the hole, spray the bolthead flat black ENAMEL, reinstall and then touchup the torx pattern in the bolt head with a tornoff paper match as a ''brush''. Works good, looks good, lasts 2-3 years in a reasonable environment.

Default Rust

I have a rust ring under the torx bolts on the windsheild. I took two of them out. It appears that the plastic washer was torked down too tight and cracked the paint and that is where the rust located (counter sink ring) is coming from. One of the washers was missing half of its counter sink ring. I will see if the dealership can order replacement washers. I cleaned the rust out of one hole and applied rustolium paint with a small brush. I also hit the bolt itself with some paint. If anybody else has a similar problem or a better answer to this problem please let me know. I can't believe Jeep could not see this was going to be problem just like the steering stabilizer. WTH!!!!!

Can you remove that whole plate and put some type or marine white grease under the plate to avoid future rust under it? Is it easy to take off the bracket plate?

I took off my brackets today and found light surface rust and lots if dirt. I am going to clean it up an put a light grease on the lower part to reduce to potential for future rust.

I cut and contact cemented an old bike tube to the back of the mount and hit the news bolts with a few coats of rattle can before installing. been almost a year and no rust, still looks brand new.
