Windshield Crack, does this sound like a defect or Impact?

While driving with the heater-defroster on, I noticed a crack that went up from bottom-middle of the windshield and then turned left. I neither felt nor hard an impact. You can’t even feel the crack from either side.

Has this happen to anyone else here? I’m assuming it’s a defect and should be covered under warranty.

Got a pic?

I'd be willing to bet there's impact evidence somewhere along the run of that crack. It could be small, but it's probably there.
The likelihood of a spontaneous crack based on a defect of some sort might not be non-existent, but it's pretty damned tiny.

You'll be hard pressed to convince a dealer the glass breaking is a defect thus covered under warranty, hope you have comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy.

So far have not had any problems, Had a few hard hits with rock and only had chips. Was it very cold out that day?

Broken windshields are DEFINITELY a Jeep thing - I'd say warranty chances will be slim to zero.:naw:

But I'd check with your insurance - many have reduced rates for glass replacement.

The weather is horrible in Jersey right now so you wouldn’t be able to see the crack in the pix. I did the ball-point pen test mentioned on several websites. I ran the tip of the pen across and along the crack on both sides of the windshield and felt no drop in difference on the surface of the glass. A drop or the pen riding the crack of the glass would indicate a definite impact. But lets see what they find under the molding...

Dude, you are having the same issue I went through in June of 2007 when I purchased my JK. Over 1.5 years ago. Trust me. The dealerships want no part in replacing under warranty. The crack I had developed was exactly in the middle, went straight up for 5 inches, then spread horizontally to the ends of the defroster and then back down. I have a picture of it and will post it up. Swallow the pain and just get a new windshield. Ive wasted the time for both of us already......

Just turn your claim into your insurance company, your comp will cover it...:D

A lot of states have insurance companys cover glass at 100% with no deductible, definitely check with your insurance, probably easier than dealing with dealer.
