Default xd cranks and back spacing and how big of a tire can you go

ok so i have 17x9 xd cranks and their back spacing is 5 ...i want to put a 3 inch lift on my 2012 rubicon and 35 inch tires....what the biggest tires i can put on these without rubbing
and without spacers ...i know the ideal backspacing is 4.5 but does .5 really make that big of a difference ...im really hoping not to have sell my wheels and buy new ones

You will be fine with 12.5in wide tires. Any wider and I might start to worry. And if you do rub on anything just go buy wheel spacers

try going to the XD thread and PM'ing a couple of those guys running those wheels. They may even have their lift specs in their sig line??

It will come down to the lift you go with AND the tread pattern you choose. I had 17 X 8.5 w/ 4.75" bs and 35 12.50 PC XMT's and a 2.5" terra lift. ended up running bushwacker flats to make them fit at full flex/ stuff. I pinched my rear brakleline in half so had to run those on top of the frame and down teh inside. if I had 4.5" backspace I don't think that would have happened.

You should be fine with 315/70-17's (35x12.50).
