Default What is this?

I was working on installing my CB antenna today and came across this in my tailgate. Anyone know what it is? Looks like FBI tracker to me :/

We're not sure exactly, but it looks like it could be a juncture to wire in a 3rd brake light.

I'm skeptical of it being for a third break light. There is no where for anything to plug into it.
Guess I'll disconnect it and see if anything break or if black vans show up.

Does your 3rd brake light do the fast flash when you step on the brake? My guess its that module. Dealerships like to put those on and charge up the but for it in their prep package.

I haven't noticed it flashing fast when I step on the break.

Your brake light won't flash fast. The LED would either come on or not.

That's odd. You are original owner? That doesn't look like something a dealership or the factory would have done, especially if you have factory tire carrier and 3rd light in the rear like your avatar shows.

No, I'm the second owner.
Planning on pulling this thing tonight if I get a chance. Will update the thread after that to let y'all know what happens when I pull it out.

That has to be something the previous owner did then, cuz no way a dealer did that. Maybe they had modded to a different 3rd brake like/spare tire set up, returned to stock for trading in and left that in there. I'd just yank it out.

UPDATE:
I showed this to my fiancé when she got home tonight because I was pulling it out. She told me she noticed that when I braked my third brake light would flash then stay solid.
I never noticed it.

After pulling it out, my third break light just eliminates, no more flashing.

Turns out y'all were right about it being part of some lighting/spare mount the previous owner must have been running.
