What Made The Last Renegade So Great?

The last Renegade was a new venture for Jeep. It was their first try into a small-sized SUV market. It came in three trim levels: Sport ($18,400), Latitude ($21,900) and Limited ($25,800). It was available with either a 160 horsepower four-cylinder or a 180 horsepower four-banger. Front-wheel drive comes on the standard model but all-wheel drive is also available. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto came standard on all models making it very popular amongst new car buyers. Either an 8-speed auto was available or an optional 9-speed automatic.

The Renegade was never meant to tear up the backroads, instead, it was more at home under city lights. With its 21 city and 29 highway MPG, it was frugal too!

The New Renegade

For 2019, the Renegade gets a refresh. It may look the same as the car it replaces, but look closer and it's all in the details. Notice those front lights? Those are the same as the ones on the new Wrangler--allowing for superb low-light visibility. The front bumper has also been more streamlined giving it a more aggressive look and stance on the road.

Around the back, it is largely unchanged. The Renegade still has those signature "X" tail lights but this time, are tinted darker, giving it a more upscale look. The hatch mechanism is unchanged and the simple one exhaust pipe is still present.

Engines

No engines for America have been confirmed, but the engine choices for Europe have and can maybe give us a sneak peek into what is in store for us in the states. They will get either a three or four-cylinder engine in Europe. The three-cylinder will make 120 horsepower from its 1-liter engine while the four-cylinders will either make 150 horsepower or 180 horses based on the trim level you buy. Chances are, these engines will make their way overseas. All engines will be turbocharged.

There has been talk of a hybrid Renegade making its way to showrooms also. Seeing as every car manufacturer is making hybrids nowadays, it is a safe bet that Jeep would try and hop in on some of the fun.

Interior

Unfortunately, Jeep hasn't offered any photos of the Renegade's interior cabin leaving everything to speculation. What is for sure, is that the infotainment screen has grown, some of the switchgear has been upgraded, and more technology will surely make its way into the cockpit. A plethora of USB, AUX, and storage slots will make their way back into the new Renegade as well.

Expect the interior to be functional, ergonomic, and exactly how you'd want your Jeep to be--well-crafted. The Renegade will easily fit five grown adults all whilst being able to store your any luggage you may bring along.

The various trim levels (Sport, Latitude, and Limited) will also have their respective interior trims as well. As the trim level moves up, leather seats become standard as well as contrast-colored panels.

The Competition

The Crossover market is about as hot a thousand suns as of late. Everyone and their mom is jumping in on this niche market with crossovers left and right. There are simply too many cars to name when it comes to the Renegade's competitors. Madza, Mercedes, BMW, Chevy, Ford, Audi, Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, and so many more are all involved in making one or more crossover.

The one thing that sets the Renegade apart is its customer satisfaction. Jeep's quality and ruggedness are exactly what you want from a car like the Renegade. At this price, it's hard to find a better deal than this. With its economic engine, competitive price, looks, and American build quality; the Renegade is in a class of its own.

So when the time comes for you to buy a new car...think twice...and then buy the Renegade.
