2021 Wrangler 4xe Hybrid Coming with 375 HP
The powerful and efficient 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid has hit the production line and is expected on dealer lots early next year.
Plug-In Jeep
When the news first broke about Jeep coming out with a plug-in hybrid Wrangler, many people didn't expect much more than a slightly more fuel efficient model. But the more we learn about the first-of-its-kind Jeep, the more impressive it looks. Originally, the manufacturer had estimated an output of 350 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. But the final product exceeds those numbers by quite a bit!
Powerful and Efficient
The Wrangler 4xe is capable of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft, which amazingly, makes it the most powerful production Wrangler. On top of that, the hybrid system also means more fuel efficiency. The pairing of the 2.0-liter ICE and the two electric motors provides a range of 400 miles. And the 17-kilowatt-hour battery on its own is good for 25 miles of electric-only driving.

Added to the Production Line
The Wrangler 4xe models hit the production line last Wednesday. The 4xe has been added to the rest of the Wrangler production line at FCA's Jeep Assembly Complex in Toledo, OH. Over 3,200 UAW-represented workers oversee the assembly line for the Wrangler on two different shifts.

Battery Installation
These photos showcase the assembly process of installing the battery packs into the Jeep Wrangler frame. The batteries are mounted behind the rear seats in the floor pan. As pictured above, the assembly technician is using an ergo arm to lower the 280-pound battery pack into position.

Emission-Free Off-Roader
On the outside, the Wrangler 4xe is distinguishable by its badging and charging plug. But there are plenty of high-tech elements hidden beneath the surface that make this a special Jeep. The manufacturer is calling it the most technologically advanced Wrangler ever. The electric-only driving capability makes it the first-ever emission-free open-air off-roader.

2021 Coming in Hot
The Wrangler 4xe is expected to hit the dealer lots in early 2021. There will be 3 4xe trims: 4xe, Sahara 4xe, and Rubicon 4xe. As mentioned earlier, the 375-horsepower plug-in hybrid is the most powerful model in the Wrangler line. But the 4xe's reign will be short-lived, as the V8-powered Rubicon 392 is set to arrive later in the year. If you're in the market for a new Jeep, there's a lot to look forward to next year!
