1. Dune Bashing

This type of off-roading can be done on either soft or hard sand, but the terrains are usually the same, wide open. Although it may seem easy to tackle this terrain, because it is out in the open, you may need to rethink that. Dune bashing is always filled with surprises, from unexpected jumps to extremely soft sand, not to mention the unseen obstacles while you're climbing up hills.

2. Desert Racing

If you love off-roading, but you still have a soft-spot for speed, this terrain will give you the adventure you seek. This is usually done with an organization or a group of off-roaders that share the love for desert racing, and like dune bashing, this one is filled with surprises, and they come at you fast since you are racing. Desert racing tends to take you through various types of sands, so you get to experience different terrains, as well as practice your off-roading techniques. If you plan on doing this, you need long travel suspension and good ground clearance.

3. Cross Country

This off-road terrain offers the ultimate adventures, simply because it takes a few days to tackle. Most cross-country off-road races take place on uninhabited terrains, which means you don't know what's in front of you, and not many people took that path before. For this terrain, it is crucially important that you have all of the emergency gear you can carry in the case of trouble.

4. Mudding

Mudding is one of the most popular and fun off-road terrains you can do with your Wrangler. This is done in mud or clay, and it gets extremely messy, so be sure to keep your windows up. Getting stuck mudding is inevitable, so be sure to have all of the proper gear to get unstuck, but fear not, this terrain is the best one to tackle if you're a beginner, so put your top up, and take it slow, and get messy.

5. Rock Crawling

Rock crawling is much harder than mudding, but, it is almost as popular. For this type of terrain, you need to go extremely slow, measured, and calculated. However, before you tackle rock crawling, be sure to have skid plates, as well as underbody protection, because you will scratch the bottom, and you will damage it if you don't have the proper protection. Spotters are extremely popular for this terrain, and they tend to stand outside, guiding you to the direction that offers the most traction, then go have a beer with you afterward.
