6 Coolest Jeep Concept Vehicles

Jeep has built so many awesome concept vehicles over the years that it's hard to narrow them down. But these might just be the six coolest.

1. Jeep Chief Concept

The "surf rated" Chief concept appeared back in 2015, and it's fittingly painted Ocean Blue. A modern take on vintage Jeep styling, the Chief had plenty of retro appeal - slotted mags, wooden slats in the back, and one of the coolest looking exterior designs ever conceived. Built on a slightly modified Wrangler Unlimited frame, the Chief was also quite functional. And unlike many concept vehicles, you could actually drive it.

2. Jeep Trailcat Concept

Chrysler seems content to wedge the 707 hp, supercharged Hellcat V8 into pretty much anything these days. So why not a Jeep? Created for the 50th annual Easter Safari fan fest in Moab, Utah, the Trailcat has exactly that - a snarling beast wedged under the hood that is easily capable of lighting up all four oversized tires. Jeep did have to stretch the Wrangler's wheelbase 12 inches to make the engine fit, which probably also helps keep it moving in a straight line under acceleration as well.

3. Jeep Crew Chief 715 Concept

Jeep's Crew Chief 715 concept was built as an homage to the original Kaiser Jeep M715, itself based on the civilian Jeep Gladiator pickup. The Crew Chief, like many Jeep concepts, is built on Wrangler Unlimited underpinnings but features a five-foot cargo bed. More than just a show piece, it also has a number of heavy duty parts to navigate tough trails. Throw on a coat of "Tactical Green" paint, and you've got a Jeep anybody would lust over.

4. Jeep Mighty FC Concept

The Mighty FC is easily one of the coolest looking Jeep concepts ever produced, but it's hilarious front weight bias and crazy ride height probably mean we'll never see a new production version. That cab forward design sits atop a two-door Wrangler chassis, and a large number of stock Wrangler bits are still here - including the windshield, doors, and much of the interior. And despite its uneven weight distribution, the FC concept actually drove quite well.

5. Jeep Gladiator Concept

Jeep fans have been clamoring for another pickup for many years now, and the flames were fanned even further back in 2005 when the Gladiator concept debuted at the Detroit Auto Show. The side mounted spare is a nice nod to the past, but the Gladiator featured a number of nice modern touches as well. They included an expandable bed, stowaway rear seat cushion, and a 2.8-liter diesel four-cylinder engine.

6. Jeep Hurricane Concept

The Hurricane's claim to fame is quite obvious - it featured not one, but two 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engines that combined to produce 670 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque. But perhaps the coolest feature was it's "crab steering" mode, which enabled the rear wheels to be turned for navigating tight off-road trails. And perhaps best of all, Jeep actually sold the Hurricane concept to a customer - for a cool $2 million.
