Growing Grand Cherokee Family

For the 2022 model year, the successful Grand Cherokee lineup is receiving an expansion to encompass an even larger share of the market. The 3-row Grand Cherokee L will now be joined by a group of new 2-row models. There will be an off-roading Trailhawk trim on offer for the coming model year, as well as a plug-in hybrid 4xe. A combination of the two new options will also be available in the form of the Trailhawk 4xe.

Short Wheelbase

For the upcoming update to the Grand Cherokee, Jeep chose to introduce the longer wheelbase, 3-row version before unveiling the standard model. The new model will be rolled out later this year to send off the 2021 Grand Cherokee. The wheelbase length is 5 inches shorter than the L model, while the overall length is shortened by about a foot.

Aesthetic Variations

In terms of styling, there isn't much of a difference between the two wheelbase variants, except for the rear. The 2-row models feature a lighter, more athletic-looking rear end, and they receive a floating pillar design at the corners. The most prominent difference inside the cabin, of course, is the different seating arrangements.

Powertrain Options

The new off-road capable Trailhawk trim is offered with the same powertrain options as the 3-row model. The vehicle comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. There is also an optional 5.7-liter V8 with 357 horses and 390 lb-ft for those seeking extra grunt.

4xe Power

For the 4xe models, the powertrain is the same as that of the Wrangler 4xe. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder ICE is aided by electric motors to achieve 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. A full EV driving range is estimated at 25 miles for the plug-in hybrid Jeep. Aside from the supreme fuel economy that the 4xe-equipped model offers, it's also the most powerful option available.

All-Inclusive Family

Of the trim levels, Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit, all but the base Laredo version are available with the 4xe power. And the V8 engine is unavailable with the Laredo and the Limited. There is a huge range of capability, creature comforts, and style available between the bare-bones Laredo trim and the top-of-the-line Summit model with 4xe power. This means there's something for every SUV buyer out there within the Grand Cherokee family.

Pricing

The 2-row Grand Cherokee will be arriving in dealerships in the final quarter of 2021. Those looking for 4xe models will have to wait until early 2022 to get their hands on the plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee. Reports indicate that pricing for the SUV would be starting at $37,390 for the Laredo, ranging up to $57,365 for the Summit.
