Italian Carabinieri

The Carabinieri is an Italian military force charged with police duties under the authority of the Ministry of Defense. Carabinieri are the national armed forces of Italy, policing both military and civilian populations. They are more than your typical Baywatch crew. You can see this logo affixed to this Jeep and many other vehicles part of this military fleet.

Special Delivery

Above, the Italian Carabinieri accepts delivery of the Jeep Wrangler Police Car. It was presented in Rome at a ceremony on the grounds of the Carabinieri High Command and in the presence of Commander-in-Chief Giovanni Nistri, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne, among others. It will be used to patrol the beaches of Romagna, providing surveillance and serving to protect both locals and vacationers.

Not your regular Jeep

Jeeps are exceptionally great for off-road terrain. By enabling this particular one to serve as a patrol vehicle, it would need to have a little extra something all around to handle the terrain, respond to an emergency promptly, and become a force to be reckoned with. This one is powered by a 2.8-liter CRD turbodiesel engine with an automatic transmission. It's also equipped with the high-performance off-road Mopar One Pack, which includes a two-inch lift kit by Fox Performance, front steering stabilizer, 17-inch x 8.5-inch Performance Gladiator black alloy rims, extra-large 32-inch all-terrain tires, front and rear molded splash guards and side mudguard extensions.

Increased Visibility

Police work is an all-day affair, meaning morning, day, and night. It's no surprise then that this particular Jeep has all the bells and whistles when it comes to patrolling at night. These bells and whistles include an overhead light bar and specialist Carabinieri equipment, including a flashing light, siren with telescopic mounting, two signaling disc holders, a portable radio, and even a machine gun holder!

Power in numbers

Jeep isn't the only vehicle that has joined this patrol force. A number of FCA range models including the Renegade were also on display at the official ceremony. The relationship was established after World War II when all the Force's patrolling cars were Alfa Romeo vehicles, starting with the Giulietta and then transitioning to the Giulia. It's great to see that this patrol force has diversified its fleet to offer more protection and coverage across Italy. If only David Hasselhoff was this lucky.
