Beijing-Jeep Cherokee is a Scary Piece of History
I think I’m more inclined to let this one slide because it was spotted in Beijing.
Take this pink Jeep with gold door handles and drop it in the U.S., and I wouldn’t be as easy on it, even though it does hold a bit of unique history tied to the nameplate.
Manufactured in China from 1984 until 2009, the Jeep was produced by Beijing-Jeep in a joint venture between the Beijing Auto Industry Corporation (BAIC) and AMC/Chrysler, according to a Car News China report. Chrysler pulled the plug on the project in 2009, but Beijing Auto decided to continue the project on its own.
Good thing this surfaced after Jeep had inked the deal to build the new Cherokee in China because this looks like a deal-breaker to me.
