“How I Completely Rebuilt My Jeep’s Transmission In One Night For Less Than $100.”

Now, there’s a killer hook for a how-to post, right?

I wish we could take credit for guiding you through this one. But this wild do-it-yourself project comes courtesy of fellow Jeep fan David Tracy at Jalopnik. Apparently, the post was inspired after Tracy bought a 1948 Willys CJ-2A Jeep and learned that the transmission had corroded.

The goal, says Tracy, was to show that you don’t need a lot of cash to rebuild a Jeep that’s truly off-road capable. In fact, that’s become a driving theme for a lot of Tracy’s Jeep posts, like the one about the XJ he rebuilt last year for $600.

His step-by-step guide for rebuilding the CJ-2A transmission includes everything from tracking down new gears to a video recommendation to help you through the process. Now, you might want to keep in mind that Tracy’s how-to guide might not meet all the traditional standards for rebuilding a transmission, but it certainly could help save you a lot of cash.
