Can't get it any lower. Have a fire ring setup and really am wondering if this piece is supposed to move about or swivel. No grounding wire because I'm still unclear if that will help.

And if it will, how should I do it? 4' fire stick / uniden 510 and Teraflex hinge /cb Mount . Please help

The lower (ring) piece moves by hand, and yes it really is tightened as much as possible.

Sorry, should add that I'm using the stock carrier on the hinge if that matters for grounding options

Realize chassis ground and RF ground are 2 different things. You need to run a chassis ground; make sure you have metal to metal contact from the mount to the tire carrier; tire carrier to chassis. If you have a meter, ohm everything and check and recheck your grounds. No pieces of the fire ring are met to swivel/move around. You should be able to tighten the bolt good and tight.

By the looks of it, that definitely isn't a stock tire carrier...it looks like the Tera Flex tire carrier. Either way...you need to check the integrity of your grounds. Typically you will need to run a heavy gauge wire or grounding strap from a chassis to the base of the antenna mounting bracket--and ensure metal to metal contact btwn mount and antenna.

A quick check with a ohm meter at the radio end connector might help. Center pin to frame ground should be infinity, outer shield of connector to frame ground should be ~0 ohms.

This site has excellent info for troubleshooting: CB Radio Articles: Selection | Installation | Troubleshooting

There are numerous posts criticizing the FireRing, but I have acheived excellent results on two vehicles. The ring should not swivel, so you may have a defective one. I'd request a replacement.

I just went through the same thing yesterday. I tried everything I could without actually tuning the antenna. I was getting 2.5 on CH 1 and over 3 on ch 40. I had a spare antenna lying around from my truck driver days so I put that one on and now I'm at 1.1 on ch 1 and 1.7 on ch 40. I am going to try tuning the Firestick some other time to see if I can get it lowered, but for now this spare no name antenna will do.

Oh, and to add, that fire ring should not move and this could be your problem. If it is turning then your coax is not connected to the antenna internally in the fire ring.
