Default I want a amp. Confused on size?

Upgraded the headunit and 4 speakers and looking for a amp to power all four speakers. Just need help with size amp, to many numbers.

Headunit= 55watts × 4
(17 rms)

Each 6.5inch speaker= 220watt max
(110 rms, 4ohms)
3way voice coils

Im not into subwoofers so I dont have one. So what would be the safest size amp to power them. Some guy told me only worry about the rms rating?

Thanx

Typically you want an amp that matches or is very close to the RMS rating of the speakers. So you would want something that puts out close to 110w RMS per channel on the amp.

You should always buy an amp that is oversized. Doing so allows the amp not to work as hard or run as hot... It will give you better sound since you can tune it correctly with the added headroom. If your speakers have an RMS of 100w pick an amp that is good for 140-160w per channel. Your system should be tuned so you can turn it all the way up and it doesn't distort. If you can't do that then it either needs a retune or the gear being used is incorrect.

Right but check RMS rating per channel at 4ohm.

I always look at the specs in Crutchfield. It will be RMS 100 x4 at 4ohm or something to that nature.

Ok so the deal with amps and there ratings is as follows... if you know which ones are good, great... but based on what you just posted I doubt that. So with that said, it comes down to the same thing almost everything does... money. Generally speaking if you're buying a 1000w amp for $50 its junk... however, if you take a main stream company like say Alpine, you get generally speaking what you pay for... actually Alpine is one of the few companies that is main stream but still tests each amp and provides a sheet showing the actual output of the amp. They are also almost always underrated on the box. Every Alpine amp I've ever purchased was roughly 10-20% higher in actual output.

Then there is the other side of the spectrum... the high end. However given that you drive a Jeep, high end is a complete waste of money... and don't let anyone tell you different.

If you need help I can recommend a good half dozen that are reasonably priced for what you get.

What speakers are you looking at? I can give you options on a good amp to match them.
