No I didn't, the sheath was all out at the hook end. What an I supposed to do with it?
What should I do with the hook? I don't want to wear the finish from the bumper by rubbing around the D ring, can I just suck it in against the aluminum thing?

Yeah, Smittybilt - thanks for putting that in the instructions!
I hope this helps.
- Unspool the entire rope (manually - don't use the motor).
- Take the long sheath (it's like 10 feet long) and put it all the way down to the end that anchors into the side of the drum.
- Put hand tension on the rope and start winding the rope on the drum with the motor. Wind the rope/sheath so the sheath covers the drum completely. You may need to do this a couple times until you get it just right. No gaps and it shouldn't make it to the second layer.
- It's this sheath that gives the rope some friction on the rope/drum that enables you to use the winch on something heavy.
- If you don't do this, the rope will pull itself out of the anchor - the rope is too slippery to grip the drum.
- Keep winding the rope under tension back and forth on the drum. Make sure that each revolution of the rope is right up next to the previous revolution. And make it tight.
- I took my Jeep up to an empty Walmart parking lot and used a tow strap around a concrete light pole. I attached the tow strap to the hook. I had my wife sit in the Jeep, in neutral, with the brake pressed partly on. I fed the rope on the drum while winding it. The gets the rope good and tight and helps prevent knifing. If you don't do this, and you use the winch under load, top layers of rope can cut into lower layers, causing wear and damage.
- When you get to the end (there should be a shorter 2 foot velcro sheath on the hook end of the rope) wind it on the drum. Put the hook in the D-ring and keep winding and put some tension on the rope.
- If you're worried about the D-Ring, get some isolators.

got a bone stock 2013 jk sport. put on a set of rubi 10a wheels and tires, also got the stock rubi 10a (19/60) springs and red shocks with daystar .75 pucks in the front and rear. i got about 2.5" lift with that. put on a set of spidertrax 1.5" spacers. i did the factory bumper stubby kit with a mopar light bar, and a $70 20" led light bar off of amazon. next thing on my list is a set of 305/70/17's bf km 2's, but i am having a hard time justifying getting rid of a perfectly good set of 31's that came with the wheels.
