Default Extended Warranty Decision - What do you think?

Hello All,

I have a 2 week old JK. I drive a tremendous amount...about 55,000/year. I asked my dealer about extended warranties, and this is what he gave me:

48 months:
100,000 miles - $1135
120,000 miles - $1252
150,000 miles - $1438

60 months:
120,000 miles - $1382
150,000 miles - $1610

72 months
150,000 - $1837

So, what do you think? Should I go for the extended warranty. On my last JK (now on my 5th Jeep), I had to have the head replaced after 120,000. It was covered by a warranty, which was really nice.

Thanks for your thoughts.

DG

I comes down to whether or not you'll spend 1500 for repairs in the 3 years or not. Also weigh in piece of mind on the road too. I wouldn't get past the 48 month as you put on so many mile per year it would waste your money. You usually have till you factory warranty expires so you don't need to rush on this either.

Boy, $1,500 seems like a visit and one half for anything mildly serious.

Sounds like the 48 month 150,000 one is right for you then. I have a 2013 but I mod mine often so the only thing left would be the engine and trans. If those go it's diesel or Hemi time.

I can say when I bought the wife an 07 JKU back in Oct 06, I opted for the 5yr/70K extended bumper to bumper, and glad I did. The first 3/36 were very little problems, however in 2011 I had to have the steering pump and box replaced as well as the rear axle seals and a few other things including the TIPM and radio, all covered by the extended warranty. The price of the steering pump and box, was in excess of what I paid for the warranty. Just Say'in

I have always heard that an extended warranty may be a good choice but the decision to add one should be done as you get closer to the original warranty ending.

No sense in paying for something that will not be used until the original factory warranty is over.

Sounds like the lifetime warranty might be a better option for you. It gives you unlimited miles and years, so you'll never run out based on mileage. I got the lifetime max care for mine for about $2100 through Harold Zeigler. They were significantly cheaper than my local dealer and I was able to do it all online. It's the real Chrysler warranty, honored at any dealership.

One advantage to adding the service contract sooner is that the factory warranty does not include a loaner car whereas the service contract would cover one for you.
