Default Jeep Wave - Cool or Fool?

The infamous unspoken Jeep wave tradition.

Do you support it, only wave when others wave or just ignore it completely?
Why?

It's actually spoken of quite a bit on the forum. Most will blow you off. Some take it REALLY seriously. I once read somebody reply (and now I adopted it), "I wave to all Jeeps. If their owner waves back, its a bonus."

I personally wave at all Jeeps. Usually first. I think it's kind of a cool thing we do to acknowledge each other. Stock or not.

I wave as much as I can, always have. Southern upbringing may attribute to this in general.

I do feel there is a hierarchy however, and I have a loose set of rules that I feel should be codified to remove all doubt.

When you see the approaching Jeep, consider things like:

* did it actually serve in combat in a war? You wave first.
* did not see combat, but is a survivor of wartime conflict? You wave first.
* older than yours? You wave first.
* taller than yours? You wave first.
* identical to yours but they have doors off/top down and you don't? You wave first.

And so on. As a sign of respect and all......THERE HAVE TO BE RULES OR ELAE WE PLUNGE INTO ANARCHY!!!!

I'm new here but give me time and I can come up with the authoritative list for us to live by

PS: first Jeep commercial in SB50 last night almost brought a tear to me one good eye...

My wife and I both have and had jeeps, well I still have mine. I wave at all jeeps. My wife sold hers and she still catches her self waving at jeeps.

I missed your "why" question.

This gets philosophical. You've been warned.

It's a club. Insiders. Only those who know.

Yet...it's an all-inclusive club. Jeep owners can be snobs but even the snobbiest still "get it".

Mall crawler is a dirty word, yet somehow not.

The guy or gal who spends whole paychecks on stickers is as "in" the club as the guy or gal who owns Moab each year.

It's a very weird mix of elitism and complete acceptance.

The only vehicle I know of that can come close to owner-recognition is the VW Beetle (one-off hypercars excepted, but how many have $3mil for a Lambo?).

Got a $200000 SEMA show-Jeep? Cool. Got a $4000 rust bucket with no top? Cool. Anything in between? Cool.

It's a super elite club on one hand yet the price of admission is just trying/owning.

I've never been a part of any other "club" where the open door policy was as open.

That's my "why".

I didn't think about the southern upbringing now that I think about it, maybe that's why I naturally liked it haha. and that's a pretty nice philosophy you have on it.

When I lived in New England and waved at folks (Jeep or not) my friends would always ask "do you know that person?". The answer was usually "no" and it confused many of my friends.

Around here if I waved to every Jeep driver I'd have to constantly drive with one hand.
