Towing/Recovery strap
Hey all,
I have only had my JK for about a week now and with winter coming I am sure I am going to start running into people that are stuck in the snow.
What kind of towing strap do you recommend? One with Hooks or without?
I have tow package on my JK so I dont have a Tow hook on the back? Does that mean I have to hook up from the front? Or can i do something else from the back end?

Without a tow hook or a hitch, you don't want to hook it to your back end, you'll break something if you do. Use your towhooks on the front. If you don't have them at either end, forget about it.
Get a tow hook or a hitch if you need to pull from the rear.

since you do have the tow package, i'd recomend getting one of these:

gives you a good solid tow point on the rear using the hitch reciever.
Oh, and i second the getting straps without metal. don't need a projectile if something snaps...

I really enjoyed pulling people out of stucks when I lived in Minnesota. One of the biggest problems is that most people don't have tow points. Sounds obvious, but it's easy to forget until you have someone desperate to get their big Dodge Ram unstuck and there is nothing to tie it to. Tieing up around a frame, leaf spring or something is going to damage your tow strap. So a shorter junkier strap or a really short chain can help for an anchoring point -- I wouldn't have the chain extend past the underside of the vehicle in case it breaks. I always made the owner do the connection on their vehicle themselves to hopefully limit liability.

Definitely, and buy a good locking pin mechanism. I bought a ~$10 one from Tractor Supply and it basically fell off. I ended up buying a Master one from Wal-Mart for $20. It's definitely beefier.

What about tow points in the front? I Have an X with the regular bumper without fog lights and tow hooks. I got stuck a few weekends ago and the only place we could pull it was from the front and we had to wrap around the axle!!! Luckly nothing was bent or broken. Is their something cheap and easy to put on the front without cutting the bumper.
