Found a New Tool To Sipe Tires (siping)
Hey Guys and Gals
I know its been a while but I fell behind and had a baby girl and now expecting a baby boy 13 months apart
So safety was on my mind this winter and having Mud Terrain tires they just suck in the wet and are ok in snow- So SIPING I must Go!!
While working on installing a cast iron sink for Inlaws I had to buy a tool to cut a piece of wood out and couldnt use a jigsaw or circular saw bc it needed to be a fine thin cut away- I could have filed but it would have taken forever
Walked around Lowes and stumbled on the DREMEL MAX
BLAH BLAH I'm getting to it- What a great tool for cutting and putting 2 and 2 together why not use it to sipe tires-
It Cuts through like butter- I was going to get the iron thing but then thats all thats good for- Dremel MAX can do so much more and at $100 why not
I had to sharpen the blade when it got a little dull but that took 5 seconds bc you leave the DREMEL On and slide it across the file
Pattern on smaller tread chunks
Pattern on the longer tread chunks
All in all took 18 minutes a wheel
Use the blue tape to measure 1/4" down - take the wheel off the JK
and turn on and press down. The oscillating motion of the blade at speed 5 is the best setting because it is very controllable.
Holding the Dremel so you see the underside of the blade while you're cutting.
Did it make a difference- Nite and Day - drove around in the rain all day and she hardly had wheel spin- Stopping improved a lot too. Can't wait till it snows. This was done on tires with 1/2 the tread left. I have new Mud Terrains I have to sipe but after these wear out.
Hope it helps !!
Mike

i have heard from some 4wd parts dealers that siping does not extend the lift of the tire. It nearly hurts the life of the tire by a lot. Is this a myth or fact?
