This is where I'd have a key made that isn't chipped. Take that with you surfing (it can get wet). Hide your engine key with your wallet, phone, etc inside the jeep.
Whenever I go on road trips, I hide a spare key inside the jeep, and put a non chipped key outside the jeep in one of those magnetic key boxes in the engine bay. The spare outside is safe and easily accessible (and yet still hidden), and they can't use that to steal my jeep if they somehow find it.

Wow some great answers. I have what may seem like a stupid question.
How far is the range for the chip in the key. I am thinking that if I have my chipped key in the tuffy storage under the drivers side that the vehicle could still start using a non chipped key.

I think the key has to actually go threw the ignition to activate the key fobs chip but the sentry security system can be hacked.

Range isn't a factor. It's not an RFID proximity key. It's just a voltage resistor that's programmed to the Jeep's computer and is recognized as a valid key when the key is inserted into the ignition. The Jeep won't run with a non-chipped key, period.
