I thought it was a 44 with 60 knuckles too, but when I discussed a 44/60 hybrid build with Scott at Dynatrac before I chose the 44 Unlimited, I thought he told me that it was a D60 with a 44 pumpkin. I may have misunderstood him, but with the axle having 35 spline shafts that are 1.5" in diameter, it sounded like a D60 to me.

I install the front PR44 using all of my existing factory parts in my garage on Jack Stands. Took about two nights working approx. 2-3 hours per night to swap everything after the broken housing was removed. Very simple if you can remove and reinstall bolts and nuts. I also bought my PR unlimited from Dave at Northridge.

Thanks for the responses and advice everyone. It doesn't sound too bad. I would buy the axle with gears and locker already set up as I wouldn't dare mess with that stuff. I've got some jack stands, a pretty nice floor jack, and lots of hand tools. I've put on a coil lift, installed a 1310 driveshaft, and swapped out a transfer case in my driveway. Basically, just wanted to hear from others in case I was overlooking something. Now I just need to decide whether I'm going 44 or 44/60.

Many of our customers do this installation in their driveways with basic hand tools and a little bit of mechanical ability. As others have said, you'll need jack stands (required) and a floor jack (not required but recommended) but few 'special' tools are needed. A pickle fork is handy to break loose TREs and you'll want a big hammer.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks for posting pics, always helps get a better idea
Thanks for recommendations, might be contacting you soon to discuss some of the differences in more detail...
congrats, I'll look forward to seeing the review
This could go either way. The 44/60 Hybrid only differs from a full 60 at the pumpkin. The center section (housing), differential and R&P are JK 44 based but the axle tubes and wheel ends are all D60 based (actually stronger than stock D60). The Hybrid uses a 3-1/8"x1/2 wall tube (like a PR60) and the PR44 uses a 3" by 5/16" (Std) or 1/2" (Unlimited) wall tube.

also ordered from David at Northridge
I also got my Pro Rock 44 from Dave at Northridge. I ordered it with gears, locker and Dynatrac ball joints already in it. I have 12 ton jack stands so they were just about at their lowest point under the frame making it very solid. If you did coils before you can handle this. I have the Unlimited also and you will notice the Jeep has a more solid feel to it when you go over bumps on the road. I put in RCV shafts at the same time. Be sure and have all the torque specs beforehand for all the different bolts and a good torque wrench. It’s a fun project with a very rewarding outcome.
