Default jeep build with a super 60/sterling setup

Well, this community has offered me so much I think its time to give back.. Come the week of March 15th, I will be installing a 3- Iink suspension with coil overs and axles off a F 350. My total budget is $7.5k. here is what I have purchased so far.

Dana super 60/Sterling axles... $800 for both
yukon Grizzly lockers front and back... $900
4.88 gears front and back w/install kit .... $600
14 inch FOA coilovers for the front... $700
1/4 inch steel (4×8) and 2 inch Square tubing (20')... $200
Currie johnny joint 6@$45 and poly bushings 6@$30...$450
38×13.5×17" geolanders MT+ and outlaw wheels... $2700
still need Drive shafts, brakelines, etc

I am an engineer so I plan on designing my own suspension and have been reading up on all of the variables that I need to factor in.

So between now and then I thought I would Express my thoughts and Ideas here and get your feedback,

No you can find them under the F350 as well and they are not as wide as the axles on the F450. I am not sure if they are a special order. I wanted the super 60 because of the greater turn radius and larger u-joings (1550s). There are other benefits like a 10 inch ring, but if you change the ring out, its awfully pricing to go with a 10" vs a 9 3/4.

The turn radius is about 10 degrees greater than the dana 30/44 so it should help out a bit more with the longer wheel base of the 4 door. I know it is very noticable for the F350.

So, I am trying to figure out the best place to mount the top link. The cross member that holds the skide plate and transmission mount hangs a bit low and when I calculate for my instant center and anit squate, its a bit lower than I want. So my thought was to mount the third link off the frame. Picture below.

Here is another picture around what I am thinking about. This picture also shows you how much lower that cross member sits. While no punn is attended, but a couple of inches does matter around the placement of the third link. Also, if i mounted it on the cross memeber, I will have to build a new member. The current one is definately not strong enough.

If anyone has done their own 3 link, I would love to know where you mounted it and how your jeep performs.

There are a few who have done this but most of those guys who are deep into building their own stuff hang out over on Pirate. A few are still here and hopefully Dirtman will be able to poke his head in here and point you in the right direction. He's probably wading through a hundred posts about BB's and 35's right now or if 3.21's work with 37's.

If you've not already researched his build, I would suggest looking over it as he's built his own stuff a few times now with various improvements. Google something along the lines of "time has come, dirtman's build" or similar phrasing.

Your front 3 link placement looks about right. You won't need that funky bend in it either. You can run a straight link. Just watch the height of the axle mount so you don't hit the oil filter.

Wher eare you planning on mounting the lowers?

What is the wms of the super 60?

Don't get all hung up on the ideal geometry as the JK has limits and you will have too compromise here and there.

Where is your hydraulic assist steering? You are going to want that for those tires if you off road.

I have the redneck Hydro assist mounted on my current axle so I will have to put it on the new axle,. The picture of the front axle w/o the skid plate is an old one. I just saw you build. Very Nice!. I was going to change out the cross member in the rear, but I like what you did better.. How Is it holding up,

Thanks for the oil filter tip.

As for the super 60, I believe it is 72" long. The wheels have a 5" backspace. I did not want The tires sticking out too much and I wanted a traditional set up for my rear coil over. The rear axle is 69" wide and I have 1.5 inch spacers for the rear. I still have time to change out the wheels if need be.

I first wanted to mount my lowers on the outside of the frame but too many things get in the way so it will probably be on the inside of the frame rails

Widths sound good with a 5" bs wheel. No problems with mine although when I get a chance I am going to raise my rear upper frame mounts about 2" just to get a bit more separation.

man i wish my axles were that wide. sounds like a good choice cant wait to see the build! also if the turning radius is a little longer, will your ram limit you, or are you having it re shimmed?
