Sorry to create yet another tire thread, but I need help deciding tire size. I have JK 2DR stock set up now which is: 17x8.0 stock rims P245x75R17 tires. They measure 31.5" but more like 30.5" under the jeep.
I have 3.73 gears with 3" lift front and 2 " in rear. (Future plan involves winch and front bumper change) This is a daily driver and weekend wheeler. I have AEV Pintlers on order now. And need new shoes to go on them. My biggest problem is I have to keep the tire under the fender. Japan law requires the tire to be covered by the fender.

I plan on buying Good Year Duratracs but the size decision is where I am on the fence.

285/70R 17 11.5" 33" 53lbs D (32" under the jeep?)
315/70R17 12.7" 34.4" 60lbs D (33+" under jeep?)

Is anyone running 315/70R17 with AEV wheels and no spacers? Pictures please (preferable from side and front showing if tire extends past fender). I think the 315/70R17 tire may stick out a small bit with the AEVs but from most pictures I have found can't be sure. Personally, I really want more axle clearance from the ground and think the best option would be the larger tire, but the more practical tire for daily driver may be the 285/70R17. I know the 285/70R17 will fit with no issues and may be better on the gears, drivetrain, mpg, etc.

I'm running the 285s. I will be running the aev wheels this spring so I will have 2 sets of wheels

i'm pretty sure that the back spacing on these wheels is something like 4.75" and that'll push a 12.50 wide tire just past the edge but, not enough to make it really look like it. unfortunately, you really have no choice if you want to run bigger tires as anything more and you would have rubbing issues. i don't know how strict the rules are out there but, i would think you'd be okay.

Yes, my 12.5s stick out about an inch on each side with pintlers

you could get aftermarket flares... they look awesome and they are wider which takes away the issue... Trailmods make a good one

I have seen some jeeps here with a small fender extension to the stock fenders. They look pretty good too! Thanks!

Thank you, Sir! The rules here are pretty strict, and the fines are astronomical with the yen rate now. I think I may stick with the 285/70R17 for now. Since most pics of the "285" I have found look like they will not get me pulled over! Run them for now and then see how much more I can go once I see them. My biggest problem being here is that you can't just go down to a shop to look at options. Most shops will special order for you, but have nothing in stock.

THANKS!!! I see they do stick out quite a bit from under the fender. You have no problems off road with these rubbing anywhere? I really like the extra height they give too! I may need to modify my fenders after all.

Don't know if you guys can see these, but here is a link where I have seen a slight modification to the fender to extend them. TIGERAUTO If you click on a picture it will open another window and using the top left buttons you can see all pictures. Pretty sharp looking jeep. I have seen this jeep in person and they don't look half bad.

I just don't want to buy tires and then be dissatisfied wishing I got the 34s.
