Default Got a JK yesterday, big problems already!

X-posted elsewhere:

Yesterday bought a 2012 JK sport. Really enjoying it and feel I got a good price at 22k with 50k miles. From the jeep dealer here in South Carolina. Was not certified. Seems to drive right.

A few small trim items were missing, but wanting to tinker with it, I made the "take 500 more off the price and I'll fix the issues myself" argument.

We drove around about 50 miles yesterday...top down...nice day! Then I pulled into the driveway with the check engine light on! P0304 4th cylinder misfire!!! I took a picture of my code reader and cleared the code only to have it back on in another 20 miles...cleared it again with photo documentation.

The carfax was clean but did mention an oil cooler line service last year at 37k miles, same dealer. I am planning to have them show me the full service history they have, I didn't do that yesterday. Carfax also show the new title going to the dealer for trade in about a month ago. I guess they have had it for that long. Hmmm

Obviously, the jeep needs a new left cylinder head based on the code. The build date is 3/12. Should I just let them do the work...or have I been taken a little here?

I liked all the guys I dealt with in the dealer. They immediately came off a 24.9k web price to 22.9k without asking before I ever even started to haggle. I have 3 days to give the jeep back for a refund...was this a known issue, hence the discount? I really liked this one bc it had side airbags. Very hard to find with that option.

Before I really fix any other things or begin any mods (dying to start!) I have to make a call on the cylinder head! Fix it...walk away and find another...or return it and make them deal with me on a new order...please help!

You have 3 days for them to make it right. Bring it back immediately to start the paper trail. See what they'll do. If it's not to your satisfaction, ramp it up a notch. If they act shady about it, tell them deal is off. Plenty of Jeeps out there.

The left heads on the 2012s have an extended warranty. That warranty is transferable, so you are covered.
They will do a cylinder leak-down test on #2, #4, #6, cylinders. If they find any of them leaking more than 25%, they'll replace the head.

I had the same issue on my 2012 JKU. They were difficult about it when this problem first started popping up, but now they will pretty much replace the head with no questions since it has become so prevalent

I don't know man. They seem too easy to come down on the price and the light coming on that soon.......I would take it back and start looking elsewhere. Like the previous guy said there are tons of jeeps out there. You can shop around and find the same deal and now that you had this happen bring the code reader and plug it up during the test ride.

He got a 4 door. You likely got a bare 2 door with 0 options for that price.

Exactly, show me a new 4 door that cheap and I'll dump my 2011 right now. There's a $4400 difference in base price between a JK and JKU. JK starts around $22,500 with no options at all.

OP good luck with getting this resolved, I'd be pissed.

Ok so it's actually a 2 door....there are very few used or new around here. I looked up the options with the vin, I think it would have been about 30 new. I am about to take it up there and see what happens....
