Do you have a working key? If so, you can program your new key without taking it to the dealership. You can buy blanks online (eBay), go to a local locksmith to get the key cut then go through the programming steps in your owners manual to program the key.
If you don't have a working key, only place the dealership to get it programmed.

https://ikeyless.com/vehicles/Jeep/Wrangler/2008 I was checking that site because I want a couple extra for mine but have been holding out for a cheaper price. I've read the eBay keys can be hit or miss.

There is a link from Amazon only a few reviews but at least they're positive reviews.

I bought a couple $7 chip key blanks off amazon, programmed myself, then stored - just to have two extras programmed in case I ever lose one of the button keys.
If you are buying a new button key, you might look at the switchblade replacements also.

I got one for free from the Jeep dealership yesterday. Granted, it's not chipped and it was just for hide-a-key purposes and it won't start the engine...but it will get me in the door in case I lock my keys in the car like I did last week!! beats the hell out of waiting for AAA and having them bend the door to get inside
