Default Will a 2009 JKU hard top really not fit a 2012??

Ive been told 2010 and prior hard tops wont fit the 11-12 Why wouldn't a 2009 hardtop fit a 2012? The new ones are backwards compatible. Just doesn't make logical sense in my head. Can anyone explain it?

I read somewhere that Jeep used a different supplier for the hard top starting in 2011. The new top looks about the same but its a subtle re-design.

Makes it easy to spot a 2011 and up - the back window is a lot wider.

I believe it has to do with the center loop hinge location above the rear-view mirror on the windshield in the newer models. I believe all the wiring and wiper hose is the same though (Someone else chime in here?)

I was going to purchase a new hard top for my 2007 and sell my old one (I wanted tinted windows and wanted the bigger windows of the new top design) but decided it would be cheaper to just replace the glass in mine and not to have to worry about the possibility of leaks in the new top (my 2007 hard top has never leaked)

So far I've just replaced the rear window with actual deep tint glass and will be replacing the side windows in the fall most likely (hard top is coming off soon and soft top is going on for summer... wooo!)

They all fit. THe 07 does not even use the center loop as a contact point. The center loop on the 08-10 is either dead center or offset to one side, the 11 and 12 center loop is which ever the 08-10 is not ( I cant remember). I ahve a 2012 JKU and I had an 07 HT on it for 4 months and now have an 11 HT on it. Both fit great with no leaks. Also, the 11 and 12 have two alignment pins on each side and the others have only one, even though all jeeps have two holes for these pins on both sides. Previous post is correct, the rear window AND the side windows on the 11-12 are bigger.

I have a 2011 top on my 09 unlimited now. The new top has the bigger glass.

The 07-08 tops are very different at the windshield loop but 09 was a transition year. The loop moved more to center to be used as a center latch for the freedom tops.

2011-2012 tops have added two extra centering mounts that have to be removed in order to sit on my jeep or have the holes drilled in the jeep bed rails.

I'll, second that it'll work. I put a '07 top on my '12. Works great, just doesn't use the front loop.

Default Hard top from 2007 fit on 2012.

I know for a fact that a hard top from a 2007 and a 2008 WILL fit a 2012. This morning my son and I took the top off his 2007 and put it on another member JK which is a 2012. Fit like a glove.
